Throwback Sweater

In the the spirit of homecoming at my alma mater, where you remember the past and celebrate the present, I wanted to share my awesome new 70s-inspired Hawkeye sweater! My Mom says it reminds her of her cheerleading sweater in high school! As always, what’s old is new again! 😉

Hanging outside historic Kinnick Stadium!

Rockin’ our RayBans! (for the record, I had my first!)

Perfect fall day+football=bliss!

I’m Hawkeye to the core. Go Hawks!

But it was on SALE!

I have a slight confession, I am a sucker for a sale. Not only am I a sucker for them, I am really good at finding them. It’s a cruel world, isn’t it? I say that because in the fashion world, when something is on sale, it means its out of season. Which means that when you are buying something super cheap, its most likely not the right weather to wear said item. But in the world of layering, is there ever not a season for a shear top, tank top, or blazer? I think not.

Ergo, my newest purchases to brag about.

Blazer and top: Von Maur, Tank top: Forever 21, Pants: Banana Republic, Shoes: Donita V (store no longer open), Bracelet Bling and Earrings: Cookie Lee

Total cost of the top-combo: Blazer-$18, Top-$8, Tank-$4 = $30. Boom!

Stripes and print…I dare you to try it! So fun!

Now to show off the totally unnecessary, oh-but-it-was-only-$8 top!

Cute right!? Come summer, this will be a fun to rock with shorts. It will be new all over again.

Side note: I’m finding myself really loving this whole ‘long in the back’ trend on shirts. For someone who’s been self-conscious about their “junk in the trunk” since about 6th grade, it helps with the complex. I mean, honestly, Sir Mix A Lot would come on a school dances and people called it my song. That wasn’t the coolest thing in 6th grade peeps. So with that I say, thank you fashion gods.

Birthday Boy

My hubs turned the big 2-9 this week so we celebrated doing what we love the most…eating and drinking our way through the night, and town!

Luckily these pants have a little stretch to them! 😉

Blazer and shirt: Forever 21, Jeggings: Old Navy, Shoes: Payless, Bracelets: Cookie Lee

I love the mix here, soft touch of polka-dot and hearts, hard with the metal bangles. And the slight tough of blue, fun!

Peep-toe and floral cut-out…perfect transition to fall shoe.

Now for the birthday date tour. Prepare to mouth-water!

First stop, Backpocket Brewery. Beer cheese and some good wheat and IPA beer.

Next up, OUR place, Takanami in Iowa City. Best sushi around, hands down!

Some Riesling to get the taste buds going.

The main course. O.M.G.

My hubby’s fav, salmon roe with quail egg. I’m not quite there with my taste buds, but it’s his happy place!!

On to dessert. The new cupcake place in town, Molly’s Cupcakes. Delicious.

The birthday boy. Look how cute he looks on the swing.

Happy Birthday babe, ride out your 20s in style!! 🙂

Absolute Fall Must-Have

Seriously everyone, go get yourself a denim shirt. I am so excited to rock this in a million different ways over the fall and winter months. Stay tuned for many more looks with this shirt as the focus. I could probably wear it once a week! I’m in love.

Shirt: H&M, Shirt: Express, Belt: Forever 21, Shoes: Old Navy

Belted for a little country-girl touch.

Jump on the denim bandwagon friends!

Fall Back Into Scarf Season

Today marked a Fall fashion milestone, wearing a scarf…for warmth! It’s a little bittersweet. I am slightly obsessed with this accessory, perhaps a second to shoes. So it’s exciting, but it also means its getting cold. Boooo! So in celebration of the scarf, I also enjoyed my first mug of hot apple cider today. Yummmmm! Pros and Cons I tell ya, pros and cons to this weather changing biz.

Shirt: H&M, Scarf: Textiles Boutique, Jeggings: Old Navy, Shoes: Payless

I love this new shirt, oh H&M will you please come to Iowa?! I could sustain you all by myself, I promise!

Next milestone…socks and shoes….oye! Not quiet yet!!!

Ps-this is my vow to find a solution for better pictures when I loose my daylight for photos. Any suggestions fellow bloggers!? Inside lighting is not nearly as lovely as outside! 😦

So this happened tonight when I bought my newest book!

That’s right, a hand-written note stuck inside my copy of John Green’s The Fault in Our Stars. It’s like a secret pen pal in the world! Okay, maybe not.

It references a YouTube video that highlights a couple of ‘nerds’ that talk about how it’s cool to be a nerd (aka nerdfighter). A little odd, but I mean really, aren’t we all a little nerdy in our way!? I mean Star Wars or shoes…it doesn’t matter what geeks you out, you’re still geeking out! 😉

In closing the notes shares some very wonderful words of wisdom. D.F.T.B.A.-Don’t Forget To Be Awesome.

Well said nerd fighters, well said.

Said No One Ever

I have to admit that I’m a fan of the little ecards you find online these days. I like the segway that ‘said no one ever’ has made into everyday language. So here is mine for you today:

I should have chosen productivity instead of that boat ride on a gorgeous Sunday afternoon…said no one ever.

Ahhh, the best way to wind down after a Hawkeye victory and a 20 mile run.

Make it a great week!!
