4th of July Fun!

Another fun, sun and laugh-filled weekend up at Lake Okoboji has come to an end. Boo-hoo! I always have such a wonderful time with my in-laws at the place I love most. Here are some weekend highlights (in no special order of the weekend!):

Dave, the new family historian, looking over old scrapbooks and datebooks with Grandma Mary Ann. Fun fact, my husband’s grandfather was born in my hometown. See, we were always meant to be, we are connected in so many ways!

The hubs and I rescued our cousin after a minor bike crash. Murse to the rescue!

“All I want to do this weekend is make a watermelon helmet.” ~my 10 year-old husband. Mission Accomplished!

Goofy headwear to celebrate our love of America!

Sweating our bums off…but nothing beats drinks and live music at the Barefoot Bar. We even caught the band that played at our wedding! šŸ™‚

7th Annual Lake Effect on West Lake Okoboji! We were one of maybe a thousand boats jammin’ to my favorite: Damon Dotson live on the lake!

The man of my dreams….what a fun day!

So much fun just floating and sunning. And yes, that’s a one-piece. First one I’ve worn in like, hmmm, 20 years!? I wanted to keep my baby belly nice and safe. šŸ™‚

Group Shot for Cathy Appreciate Day. Every July 5th, where we only do and say nice things for Miss Cathy.

My very first ice cream truck purchase, can you believe that!? Doesn’t get any more American than this folks!

Taking a cocktail (or mocktail!) break while others shop. I’d say we had the better end of that outing!

Ahhhhh, Okoboji! The only place where a Missionary Church camp and a strip club share the same parking lot! šŸ˜‰

And with this, we mark the mid-point of summer. Oye! I feel fortunate to say that I’ve done a pretty good job enjoying some of my favorite things to the max; sun time, lake time, baseball games, summer blockbusters, ice cream galore, birthdays and family time. Yet to come; outdoor concerts, beer gardens (hey, they are still fun when you can’t drink!), more time with friends and family, some camping, and days with Ā nothing on the agenda…those are some of the best ones anyways, right!?! What’s left on your list!?

I love being apart of these shoots and articles. And just remember, Shop Local, Shop American-made!!

Olympics Fashion

Did you enjoy the opening ceremonies last night? I caught bits and pieces and thought it was great. I mean, the world coming together to reach dreams, what’s not to love!? I’d also like to add that advertisers do a great job with commercials. Superbowl, what!?

I caught up with some of the countries I missed with their fashion choices. Click here for a good slide show of some highlights. I thought GreatĀ BritainĀ was fun, but you know me, I’m a sucker for sparkle! I thought USA was boring, there I said it. First off aĀ beretĀ makes me think of a French painter. Second, the skirt for the ladies just looked heavy. Lastly, the overall look just seemed a little stiff. But, Ralph Lauren has always been a little too preppy for my personal style, so I’m sure I was missing the novelty of it all. I thought Brazil was looking good. Nice legs ladies!! I’d also like to give a shout out to the independents…they were clearly having the most fun last night!

Good luck athletes and Go USA!!!

Running Sea to Sea

Picture yourself at age 18, a fresh graduate from high school. What’s next? College? Working? Running across America? Well, I met a young woman who is currently conquering the latter! Yup, that’s right!!! Rae Heim is running from Boston to Huntington Beach…barefoot! She’s doing it for a little bit of fun, a lot of adventure, and to raise money and awareness for a non-profit called Soul for Soles. Something I happened to know about thanks to my niece!

You can read all about Rae’s journey on her website. She joined the Wednesday night group run at the local running store in North Liberty, We Run. I join on the nights it works with my schedule. It’s great meeting fellow runners in the community!

Of course I had to grab a photo of her feet! šŸ™‚ And no, I wasn’t the first one to ask her to take this photo!

As I work on training for the Chicago marathon in October, I found Rae’s journey really inspiring. If she can do it, I can do it! And if I can do it, YOU can do it!!
